Just north of Main Beach, in downtown Laguna, you will find the wonderful lush green park known as Heisler Park. It sits high above the ocean offering beautiful views of the ocean and beaches below and a great place for people watching. The park offers many accesses to the beach along the cliffs. On a crystal clear day, you can even catch a view of Catalina Island.
There are benches, picnic tables and barbecue stands, plenty of grass for lounging and magnificent views. Here you will find individuals sunbathing, artists painting, large gatherings of friends and family picnicking, people taking pictures, sightseers resting enjoying the views and the occasional wedding.
Heisler Park is a great place to watch the sunset. At the South end of the park at Aster Street, there is a Gazebo that sits at the edge of the cliff over looking bird rock. Midway through the park is the Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Greens (a private club). To the west of the bowling greens is another point that jets out from the park offering beautiful views back south toward Main Beach and north toward Divers Cove.
If you are approaching Laguna from the north, turn right (west) at the light at Beverly Street, the street forks immediately so take a quick Left onto Cliff Drive. After traveling a short distance on Cliff Drive you will start to see the trees and green of the park and the views of the ocean as you approach the park at Divers Cove. This area around the north end of the park is a private residential area. Please be very courteous to the neighborhood, quiet and discreet and make sure you are not parking in or blocking someone’s drive. You WILL get a ticket. There is plenty of metered parking further south along the park.
The park can also be accessed at Myrtle and Jasmine Streets and at the south end at Aster Street by the Laguna Beach Museum of Art . If you are on foot, from Main Beach, just walk north (right if you are looking at the ocean) on the board walk and you will find a stair case leading up to the park.
